Business and Culture on the Agenda of the President of Iceland in Shanghai

President Halla Tómasdóttir visited Shanghai where she gave a keynote speech at the opening of the ESG Leadership Conference where she discussed the business community shared responsibility from a Nordic perspective. She also met with representatives of Icelandic companies operating in China, visited the Icelandic pavilion at the Green Industry & Sustainable Consumption Expo and witnessed the signing of a contract between Carbon Recycling International and Jilin Huajin Energy.

At a meeting with Mr. Gong Zheng, Mayor of Shanghai, the growing trade and tourism relations between the two countries were underlined as well as the importance of Shanghai as a hub fur business connection into China.

The President furthermore had an exchange with students at the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) about responsible leadership and the need for strong commitment to a sustainable future to address global crises like climate change and inequality. Finally, she visited the Nordic Centre at the Fudan University and attended to a concert where the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong performed music by renowned contemporary Icelandic composers, an event promoted by the Honorary Consul of Iceland in Hong Kong.
