Mr. President,
Iceland welcomes the delegation of Malawi and its national report.
In the spirit of constructive engagement, Iceland recommends the following:
- Abolish the death penalty.
- Ratify the Second Optional Protocol to the ICCPR.
- Adopt legislation explicitly prohibiting female genital mutilation.
- Criminalize marital rape.
- Legalize abortion in all circumstances and ensure access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services.
- Guarantee comprehensive education on sexual and reproductive health and rights throughout the country.
- Decriminalize same-sex relations between consenting adults by repealing relevant sections of the Penal Code.
- Criminalize all forms of discrimination against persons of diverse SOGIESC.
I wish Malawi all success for its review.
I thank you.
