About the Ministry

The Ministry of Infrastructure‘s responsibilities cover various areas, including transport, local government affairs, regional policy, telecommunications and postal matters.

Institutions and international co-operation

The Ministry of Infrastructure‘s scope includes five institutes/agencies and three public corporations. The institutes are: The Electronic Communications Office of Iceland (ECOI), The Icelandic Regional Development Institute, The Safety Investigation Authority, The Icelandic Transport Authority, TThe Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration and Registers Iceland. However, shares in the public corporations Isavia (Keflavik Airport), Iceland Post and Transport for the Capital Area are held by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, with the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs appointing its board members.

The Ministry of Infrastructure works closely with various international institutions, including the Nordic Council of Ministers, the Council of Europe, several institutions relating to the EEA, international transport institutions, OECD and others.
